A gap in the source stays a gap here. Filling it with a plausible guess is the worst thing we could do to an old text, so we don't.

One text, always in full

Some readers want the original spelling with precise diacritics; others want everyday language. One switch in settings changes between them. Both versions are complete, with nothing cut out.
